Anindilyakwa Media is proud to announce Queen of Radio has won ICTV’s “Our Way” Award.
The film has been screening at the NT film festival across the NT throughout 2022 and had caught the attention and hearts of attendees. Now it has been recognised by a fine panel of judges as the best community story.
“The film a really feel-good message by a strong spokeswoman in Amathea and was a favourite with the judges.” Announced Rita Cattoni -CEO ICTV
The film beat hundreds of entries from around the country over the past two and a half years.
Amathea was in attendance at the Alice Springs Cinema to accept the award along with Donna Mamarika, Rylson Lalara, Alberston Lalara and Co-star Percy Bishop.
The story is brilliantly articulated and transcribed in Anindilyakwa, also subtitled in English. A bilingual masterpiece! The process was a huge behind the scenes feat by a host of hard-working Language Centre employees, demonstrating the symbiosis across PC programs.
Once again congratulations to Amathea the undisputed Queen of Radio and to all who worked on this film.
Anindilyakwa Music Program (AMP)
AMP is the ALC Music Program, a program under Preserving Culture, a department of the Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC). The Music Program and its staff manage a string of bands and artists and runs in-school and out-of-school music programs.
The in-school music program runs at Angurugu school, Milyakburra School and Umbakumba school. Band members in each community share their talents and songs with the Warnumamalya youth.
The program also equips, trains, and upskills Warnumamalya musicians and works to promote Groote Eylandt bands, including Poison Whiskey, Mambali and Salt Lake Band.
The busy team manages the entertainment for a plethora of community engagement events, such as festivals, openings, and cultural events. These events are used as a training ground for Warnumamalya youth.
The ALC has converted part of the Angurugu Sports Hall in Angurugu into a new music and recording studio, including separate drum room and control room, this is where the team is based. Plans are in place for an Umbakumba studio.
